A Remark on Tonelli’s Calculus of Variations

چکیده

This paper provides a quite simple method of Tonelli’s calculus variations with positive definite and superlinear Lagrangians. The result complements the classical literature before modern approach. Inspired by Euler’s spirit, proposed employs finite-dimensional approximation exact action functional, whose minimizer is easily found as solution discretization Euler – Lagrange equation. Cauchy polygonal line generated approximate converges to an smooth minimizing curve. framework yields elementary proof existence regularity minimizers within family curves hence, minor additional step, Lipschitz curves, without using functional analysis on absolutely continuous lower semicontinuity functionals.
